Mini & Youth Ranger Sessions 2026
We’re excited to invite children and young people to join our Mini & Youth Ranger programme in 2026 -a perfect way to get outdoors, explore local green spaces and learn about nature. Through fun, hands-on sessions in your surrounding woodlands and open spaces, young rangers will:
• Discover wildlife and plant life around them
• Help care for their local green spaces
• Learn outdoor skills and environmental stewardship
It’s a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to connect with nature, make new friends, and take pride in their local environment. To stay up to date on upcoming events and find out how to get involved, check our website via the “Upcoming Events” page: www.boxmoortrust.org.uk/news-events/upcoming-events/
We can’t wait to welcome our next generation of rangers!
Callum Bowls ‘em Over!
Every season, the Trust donates a cricket bat made from willow grown on the Trust estate to each of the two cricket clubs on Trust land. They are then awarded to a deserving young cricketer from each club. This year’s recipient from Hemel Hempstead Town Cricket Club was Callum Humphrey, who was awarded his bat at the club’s end of season dinner at Aubrey Park Hotel in October for junior contribution to adult cricket. Callum also produces the club’s monthly newsletter and was chief editor of the handbook produced to celebrate the club’s 175 years.
Boxmoor Cricket Club has postponed the awarding of their bat until spring 2026 – we will report on the lucky recipient in a later edition.
Barn Owl Box Update
Our barn owl box is looking great this season, and we’re excited to share that it continues to provide a safe, sheltered space for these incredible birds. Barn owls are a treasured part of our local wildlife, and providing secure nesting sites helps support their population across the estate. We’ll keep monitoring the box carefully and will share any new activity as soon as we spot it. Stay tuned for more updates – and keep your eyes (and ears!) open during evening walks, you might just glimpse a barn owl hunting over the meadows.
Gadespring Open Sessions
Just a reminder that Gadespring, our 4-acre former watercress farm off Old Fishery Lane, is open to visit on regular days during the year. These volunteer led events are free to attend and take place every Thursday morning (10am – midday) and on the last Sunday of the month (11am – 2pm).
