‘We’ll meet again……. though I do know where and I do know when.’

The first choir rehearsal of 2022/2023 will be on Tuesday 6th September, at 9.45am at Grovehill Church of the Resurrection (the church behind the chippy) in Henry Wells Square, HP2 6BJ. We welcome over 16’s to join us at any time. There are no auditions and we have around 100 members so you won’t be singing alone. You can come along to any rehearsal to find out whether we’re for you, without any initial commitment.

We’ve had plenty going on in the holidays.

On 22nd July, 32 of us, with ages ranging from three to 83 set off from Grovehill for Wigton in Cumbria on a singing weekend. On Saturday, after a boat trip on Derwentwater and chance to explore Keswick, we joined forces with the Carlisle Community Choir for a workshop on Saturday evening, led by Rufus Frowde, our musical director

Our new friends in the north treated us to a splendid buffet supper and the evening ended with an informal, and sometimes raucous, sing-along.

For much of the weekend the weather was typically Lake District and we couldn’t be outdoors as much as we’d like, but on Sunday the weather elves relented; it was sunny and warm and we sang in Carlisle Town Centre to an audience of enthusiastic passers by.

During the summer break we finalised the details of our next big thing, ‘Keep on Smiling’ a concert in a cabaret setting at the Boxmoor playhouse on Friday evening, 30th September (see our poster opposite). The seating will be around tables, the bar will be open and we’ll be singing a selection of upbeat standards familiar to many, with a couple of jazz musicians thrown in for good measure..

Other events to watch out for include a ‘come and sing’ afternoon, the annual choir quiz, our Christmas concert and a Barn Dance in January. We hope to see you at some, or all, of these.
