Today, for me, it’s the 14th August and in just two days time, the choir is embarking on their annual tour. The time we’re off to Shropshire, staying for three days at Eaton Manor* in Church Stretton.

We’ve toured Shropshire twice before and sung with the Ludlow Male Voice Choir, which, coincidentally, happens to be the one my brother, Peter, sings with. This year, it will be a Three Choirs Concert, because we are joined by Bella Acapella. Amy Evans, their Musical Director, is also Peter’s partner!

I’ve been scouring the BBC weather forecast for a couple of weeks now and I’m happy to say it looks set fair for the next few days. The other brilliant news is that I’ve just heard that our driver for the weekend will be Russell Guiseris who came with us last year and was so amazing, helping in so many ways and taking part in all our activities.

*Eaton Manor is set deep in rural Shropshire. Our accommodation is in four separate cottages, all close together. We’ll be singing in the estate church, St. Edith’s in a special Songs of Praise on Sunday afternoon, with favourite hymns chosen by the congregation.

The musical highlight of Saturday evening will be a first performance in Shropshire, of an haunting arrangement of Love Divine by our very own, very talented, Musical Director, Rufus.

So off we go then on Friday, for a weekend filled with music and fun and laughter.

Our tours traditionally end with a ‘jam’ session on Sunday evening when members of our party entertain the rest to songs, instrumentals, dance and poetry readings. All are welcome to take part and criticism is not allowed!

It is also an opportunity to run sporting competitions. Snooker, Table Tennis, Table Football and Air Hockey are all available on site.

Watch out for next month’s magazine when the truth about the weekend will be revealed (with full colour images).

Choir year 2024/25 begins on September 3rd. New members are always welcome, men and women. There are no auditions. For more information see www.dacorumcommunitychoir.org and facebook page – Dacorum Community choir. We look forward to meeting you then.
