“Here we are again, Happy as can be!”

Jolly Good Company, Raymond Wallace, 1931

    … or so we hope!

The rollercoaster which is Covid and the lockdowns keeps rolling on. Last month, I told you about a special event in September, ‘Feelin’ Good’, a chance to celebrate a return to singing with the local community, hosted by the choir, and led by Rufus Frowde, our MD. Sadly, we’ve had to cancel that. Infection numbers haven’t yet fallen to the point where the hall where we were going to hold it is able to open without restrictions which would make a singing event impossible to police.

So, we’re hoping to move it to December, with a festive theme. Please do watch out for updates via our website and on our Facebook Page.

The encouraging news is that we plan to resume our weekly rehearsals, from Tuesday, 7th September, in the Church of the Resurrection, HP2 6BJ from 9.40 a.m. For now, numbers are restricted, again because of Covid, so if you would like to come along and see what we’re about, you will need to contact us in advance to let us know you’re coming*. More details will be posted on Facebook and our website in good time.

You’ll find that we’re rightly known as ‘the friendly choir’ and will prove to be ‘jolly good company’.

Talking of which, on 14th August, some of us met at Julia Creese’s beautiful house in Weston Turville for a Garden Party.

After a very iffy week, the sun shone for us on the day. It was the perfect chance to catch up with old friends and enjoy the chat and the food. Thanks to all who contributed and to Julia and David for inviting us.

Before term starts, on the 3rd September, a party of thirty of us will be taking off for a weekend in Ludlow, where we went on tour in 2018. This time it won’t be possible to stage a performance, but an opportunity once again for us to get together to do what we like best – sing!

There’s a full programme planned for the weekend and on Sunday night we’ll be visited by the Ludlow Male voice Choir and just sing for ourselves. A full report of the weekend may well make its way into next month’s page.

In the meantime, if you’d like to know more about us, please see www.dacorumcommunitychoir.org, or our Facebook page, Dacorum Community Choir,

*phone 01923 260440 if you’d like to book to join us in a ‘taster’ rehearsal
