Woodland Crafts for Children: Monday 5th August

This session will teach basic whittling skills, fire lighting and will include a campfire (marshmallows provided!). Aimed at children aged 8+. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All tools are provided – If you have your own gardening gloves, please bring them along as we have limited pairs! Location: Old Barn, Westbrook Hay, HP1 2RG. 10.30am-12.30pm. Family Activity Day at the Old Barn: Monday 12th
    August and Wednesday 28th August
Join our Rangers for fun in the meadows sweeping for insects and at the pond looking for creatures of the water. This is aimed at families with children aged 3-18. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults free to attend and do not need to book a ticket. Location: Old Barn, Westbrook Hay, HP1 2RG. 10am-12.30pm. Suggestion donation £5 for children and £2.50 for each additional sibling.

Marvellous Mini Mammals: Wednesday 14th August
Join us on this early morning adventure checking the small mammal traps set out the night before for shrews, mice and voles. We use live traps each year to monitor how our small mammals are doing and we’re inviting you along to help out this time. Our Rangers are specially trained to do this without harming the animals. However, there is a very small risk of animal mortality so this event may not be suitable for very young children. This event starts at 8am to ensure that the mammals are in the traps for the minimal amount of time possible. Location: Old Barn, Westbrook Hay, HP1 2RG. 8am-10am. Suggested donation: £5 for first child, £2.50 additional sibling.

All About Birds: Monday 19th August
Bird watching for beginners! Borrow some binoculars (or bring your own) and visit our bird hide to see the wonderful birds that visit Gadespring Cressbeds. Then investigate the different mammals that the owls of the Box Moor Trust have been eating by dissecting an owl pellet. This event is aimed at children aged 6-16. Younger children are welcome but please be aware that they will need additional support. Location: Gadespring Cressbeds, Old Fishery Lane, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 2BN. 10.30am-12.30pm. Suggested donation: £5.00 for first child, £2.50 additional sibling.

    Nature Photography: Wednesday 21st August
Join our knowledgeable volunteers to learn how to take good photos of nature, from beetle to birds. Borrow a camera from us or bring your own to take part!
This session is aimed at adults and children aged 8+. Younger children are welcome but may need additional supervision from adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Location: Gadespring Cressbeds, Old Fishery Lane, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 2BN. 6pm-8pm. Suggested donation: £5.00 for adult, £2.50 for child.
