Come and visit the largest preserved Midland Railway signal box in the UK and one of the few preserved boxes that’s open to the public and next to a busy main line railway.
Signalling demonstrations are run on the operating floor upstairs whenever asked for. Railway videos and a slideshow of the restoration are shown downstairs, with many signalling items on display, including single line ‘tablet token’ machines, and other railway-related exhibits.
In the garden visitors can operate working signals and a point; on display are old signs, lit oil lamps, a telegraph ‘pole route’ and a garden railway.
We suggest you allow at least 1 hour to view the garden and the signal box – no need to book – just come along. Light refreshments are available on open days.
Entrance is FREE, and donations are always welcome. The Trust, a charity, is supported entirely by donations.
Every visitor gets a traditional “Edmondson” card ticket as a souvenir of their visit!
