Celebrate with the community by taking part in Go Yellow for DENS Week

DENS are inviting the people of Dacorum to bring their friends, family and colleagues together for a special week of celebrations this June.

Go Yellow for DENS Week takes place between Monday 21st and Sunday 27th June and is a fantastic opportunity for the community to get creative and have fun, while also helping to raise awareness of the charity and the vital services it provides to those most vulnerable within the borough.

Local residents, businesses, venues, schools and community groups are all encouraged to take part in the campaign by pledging to do something yellow during the week and making a suggested donation of £1 per person to DENS.

There are plenty of fun ways to celebrate, and anything goes during Go Yellow Week. Ideas for those getting involved include wearing yellow clothes and accessories, decorating a home, venue or office yellow or baking yellow cakes.

The funds raised from Go Yellow Week will help towards families and individuals across Dacorum facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion to take the next positive step in their lives.

During the campaign, DENS will have a strong presence at Hemel Hempstead’s iconic The Marlowes shopping centre, which recently chose DENS as its Charity of the Year.

A number of shops will be decorating their window displays yellow and collecting donations throughout the week. The charity will also station an eye-catching yellow DENS gazebo outside the centre on Friday 25th June, where they will be promoting their services and upcoming events, while promising extra surprises on the day.

Go Yellow Week is kindly sponsored by MYLOCALNEWS. Nik Allen, Editor In Chief, is proud to be supporting the campaign.

He said: “DENS is a charity close to our heart who we have worked closely with for many years. They do so much for the community and have continued to do so throughout COVID, providing support for the vulnerable across Dacorum.

“We as a team are delighted to be the official sponsors of Go Yellow Week and can’t wait to see the community come together to support families and individuals across the borough.”

A number of local businesses have already confirmed their participation in Go Yellow for DENS Week. Grosvenor Wealth Management, based in Harpenden, is a long-standing supporter and a proud official Business Partner of DENS. They will be celebrating throughout the week by inviting staff to wear something yellow and baking yellow cakes for the team to enjoy in their newly decorated yellow office.

Speaking of the company’s support for DENS, Ben Anderton, Managing Director, said: “Grosvenor Wealth Management is proud to sponsor DENS as our charity partner. The support they give to members of the public facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion is exemplary. Grosvenor continues to support this worthwhile cause whilst we continue to find new and creative ways to increase our fundraising activities.”

Venues throughout Dacorum are also set to get involved with the campaign. The Red Lion in Apsley have already decorated their bar yellow and will be taking donations from their customers. Meanwhile, The Unicorn pub have committed their support to DENS through their Sunday League football team, and by decorating the venue yellow and asking for donations during the week-long campaign.

Unicorn FC player, Luke Habbijam, said: “I had volunteered with DENS before and knew of the great work they do, so thought I’d reach out. The club and I were very pleased when they agreed to be the team’s home shirt sponsor for the year and we’re looking forward to working with them in the future to do what we can to help those facing homelessness and hunger in the local community.”

Nicky Maxwell-Braithwaite, Community & Events Fundraising Manager at DENS, said: “After what has been a tough year for everyone, it’s so encouraging to see the community come together for Go Yellow Week. The response so far has been incredibly positive and we’re really excited to see all the creative ways in which the people of Dacorum will be celebrating with DENS.”
