“Make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music,
Even if nobody else sings along”
Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil
On a Saturday and Sunday in May, we certainly made our own kind of music, and fortunately there were plenty of us singing along.
If you were in the audience for Moonlight Serenade on Saturday 10th at the Hemel Hempstead Methodist Church, thank you for your enthusiasm, the way you joined us in some quite tricky numbers and for your applause. The buzz of performance and the audience reactions are what keep us going, way beyond pension age for some of us!
In the absence of Judi, our regular pianist, we were accompanied by Richard Sisson, from ‘Kit and the Widow’. As always, Rufus, our amazing Musical Director, managed to draw more from us than we ever think possible.
On Sunday we sang again, this time for the Mayor’s Garden Party, to a lively audience at Sunnyside Rural Trust in Hemel. The wind blew the music away, and our hair in all directions – we had so much fun!
To quote Spike Milligan, ‘What are we gonna do now?’….
We’re back at rehearsals with some new and sometimes testing music. Once again it feels like we’ve made the leap from being at the top of Primary School, to the lowest rung in Senior School. It may be rough going, but with a bit of hard work, and encouragement, no doubt we’ll get there in the end. Hopefully in time for our next performance!
On July 8th, we will be inviting members of the public to a free concert at the Church of the Resurrection, the church behind the Chippy in Henry Wells Square, Grovehill. We’ll be singing some of the songs we’ve been rehearsing and some of our talented musicians will be giving solos, possibly including clog dancing! The performance will start at 11.15am – please do join us – you may get the chance to exercise your lungs too.
Our final event of this choir year will be at St John’s Summer Fete, in Boxmoor, on July 26th. These are always great occasions, with good food and plenty of things to do.
If you’d like to sing with a lively and enthusiastic choir, with a charismatic leader, then please do feel free to join us at a rehearsal on any Tuesday morning in term time. We meet at the Church of the Resurrection, 9.45-11.35am. New members are always welcome.
There are no auditions and you can come along and give us a try to check whether we’re for you, before making a commitment.
