October News from Dacorum Community Choir

A group of around 30 members of Dacorum Community Choir, plus Musical Director and accompanist, has just returned from our annual tour, this year to Cumbria – a weekend of singing and socialising with our fellow choir members and members of Cockermouth Harmonic Society, who helped to arrange our concert in Cockermouth on the Saturday evening (‘When You’re Smiling’ was our encore.). Sunday was less formal, a day of rest. Many of us went on a trip to the coastal town of Maryport, and in the evening we had our customary ‘open mic’ cabaret session where individual members of the choir entertained the rest of us.

A great time was had by all. The predicted dire weather didn’t happen, and we even saw some sunshine. Our little group of caterers worked very hard to keep us well fed, and the atmosphere was definitely convivial – we did a lot of smiling because we enjoy singing! We were very happy to have our pianist Judi Kelly back with us after her recent serious hand operation.

Earlier in the summer, we sang at St John’s Boxmoor’s Summer Fête, and by the time you read this we will have sung some sunny music at Liberty Tea Rooms’ Caribbean Evening, on Saturday 13 September. We have chosen Liberty Tea Rooms as our charity of the year.

Our next major performance will be our Christmas Concert on Monday 22 December at St John’s Boxmoor, surrounded by decorated Christmas trees. Make a note of the date and come along and enjoy some festive music. Following our tradition, there will certainly be some audience participation!

About Dacorum Community Choir (DCC for short)
Formed in 2009, we are known as ‘the friendly choir’. We sing a range of music from Bach to the Beatles and from early music to contemporary. We meet at the Church of the Resurrection in Grovehill on Tuesday mornings in term time from 9.45 to 11.35am.

There are no auditions and you don’t have to be able to read music. All are welcome, just come along to any rehearsal and give us a try. If you’re interested in joining an enthusiastic group of singers, led by our MD Rufus Frowde, who always makes rehearsals fun, then look no further, give us a try!

See our website www.dacorumcommunitychoir for more information and how to join us and our Facebook page for photos and up to date news.

There are no auditions and you can come along and give us a try to check whether we’re for you, before making a commitment.
