WELL, AUTUMN HAS OFFICIALLY ARRIVED THIS MONTH – although, thanks to this year’s searing summer heatwaves, leaves were significantly brown and crisp and apples rosy-red, about a month earlier.
Thanks to Murphy’s Law, this was the year when HHTC chose to present Frozen for its annual Summer School week. Some 30 youngsters, between the ages of seven and sixteen spent a concentrated week rehearsing under the direction of Zoe Mackie and the musical direction of Charlotte Toms, while a host of HHTC adults built, painted and stitched so that, on Saturday August 16, they presented a colourful, good-looking show to a full house packed with proud family members.
We have had youngsters returning year after year and some of them move onto panto. This year two teams – made up of ‘old hands’ and newcomers – have already been chosen to take part in Babes in the Wood – and started rehearsing this month.
But first, we have our Centenary Celebration, which is now taking shape and involving a large number of our members.
“It’s a bit like a patchwork quilt at the moment,” said Brian Doran, who plays one of the two hosts.
Well, some of the ‘squares’ are already looking good, and others still have a way to go – but there is enormous creative enthusiasm buzzing around under director Ciaran Connors. The rehearsal photo indicates some of the humour being generated and we can promise you glamour, drama, dancing and song in plentiful quantities.
The dates to put in your diaries are October 10 and 11 – or you can go straight to our website and book your tickets NOW!
And whether the weather decides to stay hot or gives us a gloomy, storm-ridden autumn, there’ll be a warm welcome – and a bar – waiting for you at the Boxmoor Playhouse.
