July News from Dacorum Community Choir

“I’ll sing to him – each spring to him,
and long for the day when I cling to him
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I.”
    Lorenz Hart (1895-1943) & Richard Rodgers (1902-1979)

Following on from ‘Moonlight Serenade’ our May concert, the choir has been learning a fresh repertoire ready for the summer.

On Tuesday July 8th, we’re holding a free community concert at 11.15am. All are invited to join us at Church of the Resurrection, Henry Wells Square, ‘the church behind the chippy’, to hear what we’re working on now.

Most of our repertoire is from Rodgers and Hart (composed between 1919 and 1943). Many of the tunes will be familiar, but the adaptations may surprise you. They’ve certainly surprised us!

You’ll get an opportunity to exercise your lungs too.

As well as the choir, there will be solos from some of our accomplished instrumentalists, and singers, and possibly our clog dancers.

The last event before we pack up for the summer, is at St. John’s, Boxmoor Summer Fete on July 26th. Lots of things to buy, raffles to win, food to enjoy and, of course, us. We’ll be singing from 2 in the afternoon.

We look forward to seeing you at either or both events.  Just because we’re not meeting during the holidays it doesn’t mean we won’t be busy. On 29th August, 29 singers, two plus ones, a musical director and an accompanist will all set off for a weekend of singing in Wigton, Cumbria. We’ll be joining with a local choir for a concert on Saturday evening.

If you happen to have relatives in the area, or are planning a lake district trip, please do look out for us.
Our tours are an annual fixture. They’re a chance to get to know each other better in a social setting, a great bonding experience and, above all great fun!.

We return to rehearsals on September 9th. We meet on Tuesday mornings in term time at the Church of the Resurrection, Henry Wells Square, from 9.45am. We’re a mixed voice choir, and there are no auditions. You’re free to try us out before your make a commitment to membership.

We’re rightly known as the ‘friendly choir’. You can be sure of a warm welcome.
