Hospice st francis kapow

Summer is always a special time at the Hospice with our beautiful gardens coming into full bloom and a packed and exciting programme of fundraising events taking place throughout the warmer months. Our wonderful team of volunteer gardeners have been out in force planting and pruning and ensuring our grounds are a calm and peaceful haven.

Our line-up of summer fundraising events got off to a successful start with more than 2,200 people running or walking through masses of colourful bubbles at this year’s Bubble Rush. There are still plenty of opportunities in the months ahead to get involved, show your support for the Hospice.

Garden Party
The beautiful grounds of Ashridge House will once again play host to our ever-popular family-friendly Garden Party on Sunday 3rd June. Tickets (£5 in advance or £7 on the gate) are on sale from all Hospice shops and online. Under 16s are free. www.stfrancis.org.uk

Midnight Walk
Fancy a Saturday night out with a difference? Then come along to our magical Midnight Walk, which is returning to Hemel Hempstead on Saturday 16th June.

For the first time, parts of the route will be illuminated by candlelight as walkers make their way around the town. All walkers are being encouraged to carry tea light lanterns as they make their way along the route, which will then be placed together at the end of the walk as a symbol of the care and support the Hospice offers patients and their families.

We are bringing our first ever large-scale event to Berkhamsted with our brand new KAPOW Superhero Challenge on Sunday 8th July at Ashlyns School. This 5k fun-filled obstacle course is made up of giant inflatables to climb, duck, dodge, slide and run around. There will be slides, mazes, tunnels and much more.
KAPOW is perfect for groups, so assemble your very own superhero squad of Wonder Women and Supermen. www.stfrancis.org.uk/kapow

Prayer Vigil
On 6th June 1979 a silent prayer vigil was held at St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted, which was the catalyst that led to the founding of our Hospice.
Ahead of our 40th anniversary next year, we are holding prayer vigils at four different ‘Prayer Hubs’ on Wednesday 6th June. The vigils will be held at:
St Peter’s Church, Berkhamsted, St John’s Church, Markyate and St Francis of Assisi, Hemel Hempstead between 6pm-8pm and The Lady Chapel, St Albans Cathedral, between 1pm-3pm.

Carer’s Afternoon
All carers in the local community are invited to come along to our annual Carers’ Afternoon, which is being held on Friday 15th June between 2pm-4pm. Carers can come along to enjoy tea and cakes, craft and gift stalls, a hand massage or mini manicure, music and the opportunity to meet other carers, plus information stands. All carers are welcome and the afternoon is free.

The afternoon is being run as part of National Carers Week, which this year is focusing on supporting carers to be healthy and connected. If you would like to come along, please call the Spring Centre office on 01442 869550 or email us at springcentre@stfrancis.org.uk
